John Grey

John Grey

A DROP OF WATER

Amid shops and people,
trees and houses,
it’s the first step,
a tiny curl down glass
that’s really a symposium
on broad sea,
infusing wave after wave,
a cluster of foam and cloud
and river and puddle and pool,
the indestructible effusion
of an unimagined beginning,
gurgling in the sand
or waking up the sea grass,
or careering over a wall of rock,
to tremble earth
and the drops of water
already gathered.
