About Place Journal, Volume II Issue I
Trees

On a Solitary Walk in Square du Temple

At the far end of the mallard pond, a tree
like clustered elephant trunks

branches thick with shade-
green ovals drooping over grass

un hêtre pleureur, the plaque confirms – this fat
granddaddy of Weeping Beeches

I take a photo for Ruth
who prunes the slender Beech

planted to drape
her deck back home

                                     wanting
an Oh! to echo my own
