Kanchan Chatterjee

Kanchan Chatterjee

the dead river looks fuller today

they have opened
the gates of the dam
250 miles down south, they say; licking their lips

and we know the kids will visit
the riverbank, stealthily and
we will get
some fresh water
some fish —
cleaner wind

for a week
or so. . .

Kanchan Chatterjee works for the Finance Ministry of the Indian government. His primary genre is poetry, and he “scribbles” whenever he gets the chance or has the inclination. In 2012, Chatterjee’s poetry was nominated for a Pushcart Prize.
