Protean Hearts is an exploration of humanity’s great capacity to blanket the world with so much good, yet at the same time infuse our lives with so much pain. The duality of our nature, which lies within each of us, is examined through the intricacies of human relationships. Four individuals find both comfort and conflict as they move through the very ordinary steps of their daily lives; alliances shift, bonds form, perspectives change. As the work concludes and threats loom, they discover a new way to be in community, working cooperatively to lift and support, fall and catch, each other. This dance is constructed to investigate nongendered roles and relationships, moving beyond the binary, and investing in the lived experiences of the artists. Each dancer offers a unique voice and view of the work, both individually and collectively, and draws the audience into a contemporary and kinetic experience.
