Martin Willitts, Jr.

Martin Willitts Jr.

The Absence of a Lake
Clairaudience: ability to hear what is “inaudible”.

In a ripple of air, it remembers
a song after hibernation.
.
When the choir director lowers
her blue heron wings,
it is time for the chorus to end,
time for closing hymnals
and passages of praise, gather outside
in the cathedral of spruce,
cedar, tamarack, and balsawood,
debate the inner meaning of meaning,
become silent stone
centering into an undulation.

What have you not heard today?
