This photo was taken on January 15, 2017, the same week as Donald Trump’s inauguration. It was at a protest in front of the New York City Public Library, Main Branch on 5th Avenue. The protest was put on by PEN America and was entitled “Writers Resist.” Many of the fears we had then came true in the years to follow. The battle goes on.
John Maney, Jr. is a poet, freelance writer, workshop leader, photographer, and social activist. He is a graduate of Macalester College and is currently a member of the New York Writers Coalition. He is a former Poet in Residence at the Huntington Free Library. John is publisher of the online Finding Your Voice Newsletter. He was creator of the 2016 Dreams & Reflections Photography Exhibition (Huntington Free Library, Bronx NY), and co-creator of the Go Fly A Poem Photo Exhibition (Riverfront Library, Yonkers, NY, April 1-30, 2023). John has been featured in readings throughout New York City and State, as well as in the film Precious the Gift by Rene Sing.
