At the far end of the mallard pond, a tree
like clustered elephant trunks
branches thick with shade-
green ovals drooping over grass
un hêtre pleureur, the plaque confirms – this fat
granddaddy of Weeping Beeches
I take a photo for Ruth
who prunes the slender Beech
planted to drape
her deck back home
wanting
an Oh! to echo my own
