Verneda Lights, MD, MBA, is founder and CEO of E-graphX Omnimedia, located in Port Royal, SC. A science educator, #STEM advocate, and award-winning visual artist who works in digital and traditional media, Dr. Lights creates from the belief that science informs art and art shapes science. A native of the Gullah-Geechee Nation of the South Carolina Low Country, Dr. Lights is also a Gullah poet and performance artist who has worked in theater, film, radio, television, and experimental digital media. Her first book of poetry, DogMoon, was published with the aid of grant from the National Endowment for the Arts under the name “Rikki Lights.” Her digital painting, “View Thru the Eyes of a Ship” is an Afro-futuristic rendering of what a star-ship’s captain sees thru her ship’s window while scouting a planet suitable for transformation into an interstellar agricultural hub.
