I AM
I am watching you in line
from behind my mother’s purse. I see you
from my balcony, my cigarette
a single red eye in the dark.
I know you
as I sit feeding sparrows,
quiet as you pass.
I am a piece of you,
just as you are,
when you lift your razor
to your face
and pause for a moment
in tryst with me,
a piece of me.
I am with you
always.
Shannon Connor Winward has published or forthcoming work in Gargoyle, Pseudopod, Pedestal Magazine, Strange Horizons, Literary Mama, and Vine Leaves, among others. Shannon is the author of Undoing Winter (Finishing Line Press), a chapbook of literary and myth-inspired speculative poetry. In between writing, parenting, and other madness, Shannon works to support local artists, and here and there has been intimate with a microphone.
