My identity carries different roles of who I am and expectations of who I should be. As a daughter of Palestinian refugees, a visibly Muslim woman and a first generation American, trauma, freedom and misconceptions are a part of my identity. To be myself is to accept them all. My work is motivated by the ways societal fears and lack of knowledge can strengthen misconceptions and create a disconnect within humanity. I aim to mirror my reality back to the audience which feeds into it. I draw from popular symbols and iconography to create cropped, abstracted shapes. I use painting, wearables, found objects and performance photography to express my inner struggles of identity.
