Sitting on the docks of Ross
Barnett Reservoir.
Many times I had come—sometimes
from afar.

Its sounding, rushing waters
ease my mind,
giving me a smile to leave with
every time.

(Earnest comments: This reservoir, named after one of Mississippi’s racist governors, is widely used and enjoyed by African Americans. Ironic!)
