a literary journal published by the Black Earth Institute dedicated to re-forging the links between art and spirit, earth and society
Joseph Laurro is searching while painting and making visual decisions directly in the process. It is visceral, and anything feels possible. Their love for nature and animals are never far from hand. Images become meditations on movement, they turn to folklore, science and the sacred, and feel like a counterweight to a world of despair, and why the artist persists. Joseph’s work, highlighted by Rachael Thomas, Senior Curator of the Museum of Modern Art (Dublin), was chosen for the competitive Curate-NYC. His paintings published include Macmillan Learning and his work was featured by Chief Curator Rebecca Wilson in Saatchi Art collections. Laurro exhibits locally and nationally, including The Mercer Gallery, Arts Gowanus, Samuel Dorsky Museum of Art, Greenpoint Gallery, Arts on the Ave-NYC and Local Projects. Working as an artist and educator in NYC public schools, Joseph resides in Brooklyn, New York.
