Anita Endrezze

Short of life

Wheelchair-bound

I sit

every day

the African violet blooms

on a shelf

reminding me

that beauty is not a verb.

November

Sun on red leaves

My wheelchair lurching over

cracked pavement.

I wear pale grey and white striped gloves.

Hedges taller than the sky

remind me that I’m only here

for a brief time. Geese fly,

old friends write,

the sky is full

of devotion.
