Alexander M Tokarsky

A Cure for Cancer

He closed his eyes.
He found fulfillment in the waking world’s delights.

Had this world been that much smaller,
Had this life been that much shorter,
He would not have been the ocean
Being thrashed on jagged cliffs.

Cold wind engulfed him,
So he closed his eyes.
He was creation,
Ambivalent, ambiguous and fleeting,
A proximity to God.

But God eradicated dark, despite his pleading.
And the sun shed rays on eyelids of reluctant apple blossoms.

So he closed his eyes.
He was the night.
And sun-lit apple blossoms
That were bleeding from their blights.
