Joy Harjo is a Mvskoke poet, musician, writer, playwright, memoirist and performer. She’s the author of nine books of poetry, including her most recent, An American Sunrise. Her awards include the Ruth Lilly Prize from the Poetry Foundation, the Wallace Stevens Award from the Academy of American Poets, and a Guggenheim Fellowship. Her memoir Crazy Brave won the PEN USA Literary Award for Creative Non-Fiction. Joy’s music has been awarded a NAMMY for Best Female Artist of the Year. She is co-founder with Jennifer Foerster of an arts mentorship program for Mvskoke citizens. The poems come from An American Sunrise, W.W. Norton to be published September 2019.
