in a floating skim of stream fed ice
that will melt into the brine
before noon.
Already first ripples,
thin cumulus clouds reflect
teasing tips of future waves
that will crest white and windy
against the weathered shore.
Late winter bearing early spring
slow floating eagles circle higher
riding currents over the river
and gift of beginnings
warm shadows of breeze
twist the early morning light
and linger
in a song
of unfurling leaves, blossoms and bees.
The coming rain will fall twilight, darkness and sleep,
but now there are many colors of blue sky.
