PRESENTE! is a performance troupe of poets, musicians, and performance artists dedicated to re-examining United States politics and culture in the light of peace and justice. Its theater-in-the-round performance brings awareness to the reality of political prisoners and prisoners of war in the United States—our own “disappeared” from the Sixties to the present whom the late anti-war activist David Dellinger has called “Our Mandelas”.

“Hauling Up the Morning” was inspired by Hauling Up the Morning—Writings and Art by Political Prisoners and Prisoners of War in the United States. Tim Blunk (Editor); Ray Luc Levasseur (Editor); Assata Shakur (Introduction); William Kunstler (Preface). Red Sea Press. 1990.

The opening quatrain is from “The Heathen” by Bob Marley. Copyright: Odnil Music Ltd., Fifty Six Hope Road Music Ltd.
