Annie Blake

Annie Blake

The Father’s Knife

My father handed me that knife.
He used to buy meat in bulk.
He used that same knife to slice all the female
bodies — to arrange them perfectly
on the table. When I was young
he put that knife in my hand
and that’s how I became angry and strong.
